Study Assistants

AlcheraBio is very fortunate to be located a short distance from Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, which offers highly respected graduate and undergraduate Animal Science programs. This enables us to attract exceptional undergraduate and graduate students in Animal Science who are qualified to work as study assistants. The experience gained at AlcheraBio provides students and recent graduates with the opportunity to explore facets of veterinary medicine, animal health, and veterinary drug development, which they might not be exposed to in the typical academic environment. Over the years, several students who have completed their graduate programs have become permanent AlcheraBio employees.

Kurt Cheng
Kurt graduated from Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences in May 2011 with a degree in Marine Science. During his undergraduate career, Kurt has worked as a researcher at Haskins Shellfish Research Laboratory, where he collected and processed research samples, compiled research data, operated a research vessel, and conducted independent research on ribbed mussels in Delaware Bay. Kurt is a co-author of several professional presentations on oyster and mussel research.

Marcus D. Kwasek
Marcus is a 2010 graduate of Rutgers University, where he majored in Marine Science. Prior to joining AlcheraBio in April 2011, he worked on three very interesting projects. The first was an internship at the Rutgers University’s Marine Field Station, where he was involved in tracking and tagging, population analysis, and programming, deploying, and analyzing data from Remote environmental Monitoring Units. During his second internship, Marcus was as a member of the crew of the Atlantic Crossing of Slocum Glider, which gathers a variety of oceanographic data. He also helped analyze data from other trans-ocean craft. In his third internship, he worked in the Department of marine and coastal Sciences at Rutgers, managing a variety of data collection and data analysis activities.

Jansen-Michael Tolentino-Nacion
Jansen has worked as a study assistant at AlcheraBio since 2007. In May 2011 he received his BS and RN degrees. Prior to joining AlcheraBio, where his responsibilities include data entry, quality control, and training new data entry assistants, Jansen worked as a lab technician for Quest Diagnostics and an intern at the Center for Nursing Education and Testing. He is also a competition-level hip-hop dancer.
